Swedish Wind Power Association

About the association

The Swedish Wind Power Association was established in 1986 and has over 30 years of experience in the wind power industry. It started with the visionary entrepreneurs, landowners and others who invested in one or a few installations, and today we represent everything from the smaller wind power owners to the big producers.

We are committed! We are an experienced organizer and we annually organize conferences and informative seminars on current topics. We are an established referral body and a committed party in Sweden. Who believe in strength through collaborations.

Our main purpose is to promote the development of wind power under reasonable economic and financial conditions for producers. We are involved in wind power related projects and education, we provide information on research results and technological development, often in close cooperation with both authorities, organizations and business, both nationally and internationally.

The association is open to everyone. In addition to producers, our members include service and maintenance companies, suppliers and projectors, private persons and others.

A bit of history

The Swedish Wind Power Association was formed at a wind power symposium in Bohuslän in August 1986. The initiator was M.A. Ann Wennberg. Bengt Simmingsköld was elected the first chairman of the association and Birgitta Dahl, then environment minister, gave the opening speech.

The Swedish Wind Power Association pushed through investment support for wind power following the liberalization of the electricity market.

In 1996 came the so-called 9-öringen and new investment support. They were followed by the environmental bonus and electricity certificates in a major renewable energy initiative.

In 1990, there were 50 wind turbines larger than 50 kW, almost all built after the association was formed. Many new wind power companies were formed after inspiration from the Swedish Wind Power Association, which also became a referral body in government investigations. Our members, the pioneers, have started many wind power projects and shown the way for the wind power industry.

Over the years, the association has responded to many referrals that were the basis for decisions that have had a direct impact on the expansion of Swedish wind power.
